My husband and I have sailed with Royal Caribbean in the past, but our cruises were always with the Voyager line (larger ships).  We also always plan a cruise a year in advance and book a balcony cabin.  This year, because of family and financial circumstances, we decided at the last minute to book a short cruise on a smaller ship with an oceanview rather than a balcony stateroom. I was nervous about the choice and even considered a last minute upgrade with the additional expense.  I have to say that of all the Royal Caribbean ships we have sailed - with perhaps the exception of one - this was BY FAR the best ship we have been on.  First, the staff was very friendly (this was in sharp contrast to our triip last year where the motto of THAT ship seemed to be "we don't care - we don't have to"!)  Second, the cruise director was FANTASTIC - he was personable witty and active They offered more events/activities in four days than we have experienced on a full 7 night trip!! Third, the ship was VERY clean because of the H1N1 virus there is heightened cleaning requriements - that said, the crew KINDLY told people to use the purell dispensor before entering the lunch buffet area or dining area.  All public areas were well maintained at all times.  The room was typical cabin size and, in spite of the fact that we did not have a balcony it was very open feeling and , aside from missing the sound of the ocean at night (I was accostumed to keeping the balcony door slightly open) - I did not miss the balcony stateroom.  The room was also VERY clean - (and I am a 'clean freak') - the bed was very comfortable - sheets were soft and spotless as was the bedding . I was worried that I would feel more motion on this ship (I have motion sickness issues), but I can honestly say that I felt very little motioni on this ship in spite of the fact that there was a storm and bad weather for a couple of days.  We are considering another trip on this ship for all of these reasons!  I thought I would miss the larger ship with the indoor promenade mall and 24 cafe but I enjoyed the open atrium of the enchantment where the cruise director took advantage of the space to have the traditional '70's disco party.

Cabin Review

Large Ocean View Stateroom

We had an oceanview balcony on deck three (don't pick deck 2 if you really want a good oceanview since those windows are divided - the ones one deck three are larger and unobstructed).  The only problem we had was the large suitcase was too 'tall' to fit under the bed. (The others we brought fit fine). On a longer cruise, we probaly would have asked if there was somewhere else where it could have been stored.  THere  are TONS of places for storage including several under the couch drawers which we discovered after we had unpacked! I like more closet shelving (there is one open shelf and one or two drawers below it rather than shelves the entire length of the closeet) but that is a person choice.  Floor space in the closet is limited for sure storage so if you bring tons of shoes, this could be a bit of an issue. A hanging shoe storage unit could help this problem .  We were slightly past midship yet we felt almost no motion in this room - even during a storm.  We had NO problems with noise at all The queen bed was very comfortable (much more comfortable than the hotel bed we had slept in the night before!!) - and the sheets were soft and sparkling white as were the rest of the bed linens.  Bathroom is typical cruise size - shower curtain instead of sliding door made shower seem bigger and more comfortable to get in and out of.
