Not having cruised with Thomson for quite some time we booked a cruise on TUI Discovery because we had sailed on one of RCI’s Vision Class ships, Legend of the Seas, in the past and loved it. The Discovery is the sister ship Splendour of the Seas, until recently a very popular part of the RCI fleet, but clearly deposed by the new megaships.
Thomson (TUI) have really set the bar high with this acquisition. The ship is stunning in superb condition, obviously TUI have made some serious investment. Everywhere from external paintwork to cabins, theatres, and restaurants, the décor standard is high.
The magnificent Atrium with its glass lifts and reaching up to Deck 8 is breathtaking. A great centrepiece for the ship.
The cabin was very good, clean and in a fine condition. The queensize bed was very comfortable and we slept well. Soundproofing excellent - with the flatscreen TV mounted on the wall I half expected to hear some noise but there was none. Bathroom had an excellent shower but with the dreaded curtain. Lighting - very good, especially the spotlight feature within the bedside light facilitating reading without disturbing your partner. Tea & coffee and safe all provided. The balcony was fine, if a little compact.
