We were initially advised by friends to try Scenic for the Rhine Cruise and enjoyed ourselves so much we thought we'd try the Gems of the Danube. We chose to depart UK from our local airport to Munich, reception at the arrivals hall was efficient, the only slight issue was the coach trip of over 2 hours to Nuremberg. Reception at the Scenic Amber was as welcoming as our previous trip, and just as efficient, bags were already in our cabin. Our butler was on hand to explain the routine, but with previous experience there was little that we did'nt already know. Cabin was very clean and comfortable, lots of clothes storage space with more than enough hangers. Cabin safe was tucked away on a tray, all the usual facilities of a 4/5 star hotel room, and a complimentary mini bar!. The bathroom/shower had the usual selection of supplied toiletries, a minor suggestion would be shaving cream for the male passengers to compliment the various lotions?
Every member of staff had a smile and a friendly greeting, no matter what time of day, I'm sure I could'nt smile for that long every day!
Lounge was spacious and light, more than adequate seating for groups or couples. Complimentary tea and coffee 24/7, the cookies were keenly sought after. Dining room was as comfortable as the lounge, large selection of courses, or you could go off-menu, the steak was excellent, burgers were large and tasty. Staff were kept busy, but there was a very minimal time to attract a waiter.
Very comfortable with the balcony providing extra seating space. Minor issue with the position of the sink, we kept banging our head on the excellent storage unit. Shower was very good, hair dryer not so much. We took our own UK/European adapters as routine, there were also Australian/Chinese power sockets available. Some USA passengers talked about 110v adapters being available from reception. Excellent room steward.
Two options on the city tour, the easy, less strenuous or the climb with some steps. Optional shuttle bus in the afternoon, two runs. Fairly compact tour, good views of the city walls, then the main market. Beer and bratwurst break!
