Sail Date: May 2016

It was two and half years from booking this trip until the sailing, so needless to say there was a lot of anticipation and excitement! I followed the comments and reviews of those who sailed before me so I knew what to expect, and for me, Viking did not disappoint. We chose the Viking Homelands itinerary going from Stockholm to Bergen with air and Stockholm pre-trip through Viking. There were two of us traveling--myself (early 40s) and my mom (early 70's). I am of both Swedish and Norwegian descent and this trip fulfilled my desire to see where my family came from.

We had no trouble with the air arrangements from Viking. Flights were smooth and we were pleased with the timing of the flights. We stopped in Amsterdam both going and coming back.

We opted for Viking's pre-trip in Stockholm to give us more time to see the city. Viking provides concierge service, but there are no organized tours. We had planned out our days ahead of time, but you never truly know what someplace is like until you get there. The concierge service was really helpful with transportation as there are so many options in Stockholm. My mom used the included Viking transfer to the ship on embarkation day and it went smoothly. I went sightseeing all day and got to the ship independently (my luggage went on the transfer). Embarkation was quick and easy.
