October 8, 2016 Oasis of the Seas.
We had an aquatheater suite cabin booked (A4) cabin 14330 but due to Hurricane Matthew there apparently were many cancellations for this sailing. Royal Caribbean called us the day before the sailing and offered us an upgrade to the Grand Loft Balcony Suite (GL) cabin 1758.
The cruise was fantastic. This was our first time on an Oasis class ship. We've sailed twice before on the Freedom class which we really liked.
Cabin 1758 (GL Category) Grand Loft Suite.
Deck 17. Walk into room and straight ahead is a hallway with a closet and bathroom with shower. To the right is the living area. There is a dining room table that seats six comfortably, a very large couch, chairs, bar area with a small refigerator and a large flat screen TV.
The walls are two stories tall with glass from floor to ceiling looking out the living room and bedroom. Blackout curtains and sheer curtains are controlled by electric motors in both the living room and bedroom. The bedroom also has opaque panels that move vertically up and down in the bedroom for privacy or a full view of the ocean.
The deck has two Lounge chairs, a hot tub and views facing forward on the starboard side of the ship and out to sea. There is no view aft as there is a Crown Loft Suite balcony next door.
The bath area is very large and elevated behind the bedroom area. You climb three steps on either side of the bed. There are three lighted mirrors, ample closet and storage space, two separate sinks on either side of the opening overlooking the bed, multiple electrical outlets, a very large tube that overlooks the bed toward the large flat screen TV in front of the bed, a large shower with bench, two shower heads one being a "rain" shower head, and separate toilet read with bidet.
The cabin is on deck 17. It is considered a Star Class Suite with all the benefits that come with Star Class. Each Star Class Suite is assigned a "Genie" or personal concierge. She was great. She arranged reservations at the comedy club, specialty restaurants, and in-room drinks and dining.
Our cabin was right next to the Coastal Kitchen and Suite Lounge which was extremely convenient. The Suite Lounge and Coastal Kitchen is available for guests in suites.
I hesitate to complain about anything on this cruise or this cabin because everything was excellent.
For anyone booking this cabin in the future, please be aware that you are right next door to the Coastal Kitchen "kitchen." You can hear movement of pots, pans and equipment at times during the night and early morning. It did not bother us but others may find it annoying if you go to bed early or wake later.
We drove over from Naples, Fl. Embarkation was very quick and easy.
Walked outside the port for a brief time. Met some nice people but did not stray too far from the ship. Enjoyed Red Stripe Beer for half the price inside the port. Numerous vendors selling beer from coolers just outside the port gate.
We made the three mile walk to downtown and then three miles back.
A relaxing beach day.
