We took this Carnival Triumph cruise because we wanted to try a Carnival Cruise and we wanted to take a cruise out of New Orleans. We had an offer from Harrah's New Orleans for a few nights, so we decided to combine a gambling trip with a cruise. We walked to the cruise terminal which involved carrying our luggage down a flight of stairs. The NCL and Royal get to use an elevator but Carnival goes out the next terminal which involves stairs. The check-in process went smoothly. We got an upgrade offer for an Ocean Suite with includes faster to the fun. We had chosen a 12:00 to 12:30 check-in time and we arrived about 12:30. We were told that our room was ready and we could go straight to our room. When we got on the ship we were told NO you cannot go to your room and we had to wait until 1:30pm. So we had to stand around wasting time. Our room was an Ocean Suite. It was a very nice room.

We enjoyed all of the options for casual dining. We only ate at the dining room one night. We were anytime dining and were surprised when we were given a table for 2 without asking for one. Since this was a 4 day cruise we only had one port day. We were very disappointed with excursions. We were just dumped off the ship without any help finding our excursion. We had to go around asking where to find our excursion when we got off the pier. We did the Discover Mexico tour in Cozumel. Our room steward was very friendly. He always greeted us by name and asked about our day. Disembarkation seemed to take a long time. And of course we had to carry our luggage back up the flight of stairs before we could walk back to the hotel.

We really enjoyed cruising along the Mississippi River. We could see many drilling platforms out in the gulf.

Cabin Review

Ocean Suite

Cabin OS

We had an Ocean Suite. The room has a couch, chair and table. Plenty of storage. The room has a mirror as you come in the door with a small shelf. On the wall are hooks to hold coats and hats. There is a safe and refrigerator. Shelves above that with glasses. Our room steward was very friendly and always greeted us by name. Swinging door to balcony instead of sliding door. The room was clean but balcony showing its age. Carnival only cleans the room once a day now. The bed had the head toward aft. 4 chairs and 2 tables on balcony.

We usually hang a sign on the door with magnets so that we can find our room. No name outside room only the room number. The doors and walls were not metal so our magnets would not work.

Close to the elevators but also noisy. The atrium in open all the way to the top. So we could hear everything that was going on in the atrium in our room. If you want to go to bed early, this is a problem.

2 closets. Only 8 hangers in the closet. The hangers are the type and will not come off the rod. Hard to use especially since I am short and could barely reach them. They put a robe in the closet the very last day. That would have been nice earlier in the cruise.

Hooks by the bathroom door. This room had a bathtub with jets. The bathtub did not drain and ended up with ankles covered with water. The jets looked rusty.

Great location in middle of ship and easy to get to everything.

New Orleans

Lots of things to do before the cruise. We took the Segway tour through City Segway.
