  3. Viking Star
We have long wanted to visit Scandinavia so were completely taken by the idea of Viking's new Ocean Cruise Line, specifically the Viking Star "Viking Homeland" cruise. We received courteous, knowledgeable phone support whenever contacting Viking to discuss flights and other aspects of the cruise. Our flights from San Francisco to Bergen, Norway went quite smoothly, as did our return flights. Arriving in the Bergen airport we were met by Viking representatives allowing for a very smooth transfer from flight to ship, and smooth embarkation. Likewise our disembarkation was very well organized allowing for easy transfer from ship, to airport busses. We did not have add-on visits before and after our cruise. All areas throughout the ship provided excellent guest service and we cannot sing the praises of staff loudly enough, we would rank staff higher than a 5 if we could. We loved have room service allowing us to have early morning breakfast (as early as 6:00am) in the comfort of our room or balcony before leaving for daily excursions. The variety of breakfast foods was extensive suiting all palates. Dining was anywhere from casual dining to elegant providing excellently prepared varieties of foods, from appetizers through desserts, in each of the dining venues, additionally the ship has two speciality restaurants. We greatly enjoyed the ships sitting and reading areas, lounges, theater, movies- under-the-stars, and afternoon tea.The fine attention to service was noticeable, even providing coffee while waiting for our shore excursion time. We were so very pleased with our daily shore excursion selections and ease in understanding our knowledgeable guides. We marveled at the wealth and depth of memorized information they shared which was always interesting. Our guides were so helpful to us in navigating around foreign (to us) countries. The ship offers a wide selection of shore excursions. We especially enjoyed being on a smaller cruise ship, with less people, which made the ease of departing and returning from shore excursions seamless. We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our cruise, and were a bit sad to see it come to an end.

Scandinavia & fjord cruising; a lifelong dream realized.

Cabin Review

Cabin 8014
On the ship we were immediately impressed by friendly, helpful staff throughout. Karen, our stateroom steward was excellent, paying the finest attention to overall room appearance, and our needs. Our stateroom was everything we had hoped for an extremely comfortable deluxe king-size bed, safe, espresso coffee maker, mini-refrigerator with bottled water, soda, and snacks, all replenished daily. Personal grooming bathroom supplies were also replenished daily.

  • Vintage Tram tour
The Tram ride was a bit boring, going up one side of the street, turning, around and going back down the same street. Our guide seemed bored with her job with minimal enthusiasm.
