  3. Oasis of the Seas
This was our sixth cruise with RCI, but our first on the Oasis of the Seas. For a ship that holds up to 7,000 guests, it never really seemed that crowded. Even the elevators moved smoothly, as we seldom had to wait for one that was too full to ride. The food is the typical cuisine found on all RCI ships. The only specialty restaurant we tried was Coastal Kitchen on the 17th deck. My wife and I both ordered strip steaks, which were the worst food we have ever experienced on our cruises. The manager offered to treat us on our next visit, but we declined. For a restaurant reserved for suite holders, it was a disappointment. The shows were very good, especially the ice skating show and the comic. The stage production was Cats, which was well acted, even though half the audience left during intermission. The acapella group was also outstanding We had a junior suite on the 7th deck. The room was clean, had a nice sized bath room with a tub, a walk-in closet, and Queen size bed. The balcony was large, with two chairs and two recliners. The state room attendant was quite efficient, although not as personable as on our prior cruises. We took this cruise while Hurricane Matthew was reeking havoc in the Caribbean. A special kudos to the Captain who not only did an excellent job updating the weather conditions, but deftly steered the ship to all ports with a very smooth ride. Our friends assumed we were on the verge of capsizing, but instead we hardly felt a ripple.

Oasis is a great ship.

  • Island Tour
This was a 4 hour tour of both sides of the island, with stops at the airport, Orient Beach and Marigot Square. The place was hard to find at Simpson Bay, but worth the effort. Cost was $75.
