After booking this cruise, I started reading the reviews posted by Cruise Critic and I started worrying I may have made a mistake. 53% say they loved it I thought was low. So we were forewarned of possible issues with the ship. The cruise itself was great! The problem starts right from the beginning when you board, there are serious language issues and that is our fault not the cruise lines. We should have checked out their clientele, the VAST majority were Italian, Spanish, German and French. Barely a word of English was heard the whole cruise and when you're asking important information mistakes were made in conveying to us what to do. To start, there seemed to be a rush, EVERYTHING IS A RUSH..... you're on an elevator, getting off at a floor, you have these people who absolutely have to get on before you get off as if the thing will drop.... People seem to lose common decency, they barge through you shove you out of the way, respect seemed to go out the window on this cruise.
The buffet restaurant was passable at best, the staff were not very helpful and for cleaning off tables so you can use it, a soiled napkin was fine,,, Not once were tables actually strayed with some cleaning solution and wiped down... I hope this is done in quiet times it certainly wasn't done during mealtime. COSTA is gonna COSTYA everything they do is to make extra money off you. We purchased a drink package but Costa did not put it on our card we had to constantly tell the staff we have a paid package, understanding that was pretty difficult it appears, the serving staff would look at us as if you;re nuts... Just to give you an example of the cheapness of this line,, THEY HAVE WARNING SIGNS NOT TO FILL WATER BOTTLES AT THE WATER Dispensers.... Can you believe that?
We had an excellent waiter at the evening restaurant, he was well versed in English and was very fast and pleasant and made us feel very welcome. Same with the room person, he was very pleasant and was always asking if everything was good. He kept our room clean and fresh and it was much appreciated.
The various excursions were nice, okay but for what you paid, not worth the money.... Again there was a major language issue... We actually had one excursion cancelled at the last minute since there were either not enough English speaking people OR they could not find an English speaking interpreter... Very disappointing ..
Very nice cabin, top deck, beautiful views. The staff were very discreet and came and cleaned when they saw you leaving ...
Malta didn;t attract us much I was dissapointed
