Chosen b/c of my German heritage and historical interest. We experienced both the Fontanne and the Schumann due to low river level. The ships were identical and both crews were superb, but the crew on the Fontanne holds the edge for friendliness, individual attention and the chef seemed to have a bit more pizzazz than the one on the Schumann. Though these were retiring ships from the line, they were up to date and clean and modern. Our cabin was comfortable and always well kept. The program director (who was with us on both ships) was excellent, especially at finding ways around the low water level with busses to extra attractions and lunch out. I really enjoy river cruising b/c you are within sight of land at all times with scenery to enjoy. I like the casual atmosphere and the cultural attractions brought on board - in this case lace making and folk dancing. The Silver Spirits package made for fun wine and single malt scotch tasing.
