The cruise on the Danube was probably the best vacation i have had.The reason i picked a river cruise was from watching them advertised on PBS tv and always thinking i would like that.I then seen an ad for free airfare to and from Europe in the spring/summer of 2016 and contacted my travel agent and a week later i had it booked. All airport transfers were included in the deal as well as a guided tour every day and from the moment we got on the ship until we left a week later everything on board was first class. The cabin was compact but the room had everything we needed and all the staff and crew were very friendly and helpful at all time. The food was excellent with lots of choices at every meal and wine and beer were included with lunch and dinner. The entertainment was good but could have been better though the guy who played the piano was very good. The cruise director, captain and head chef were there to look after your every need and always making sure you were completely satisfied at all time. All the excursions were well planned from the day we walked around Passau were we embarked until the highlight for me sailing into Budapest at night which was breathtaking.Another memorable trip was to Cesky Krumlov in the Czech republic which was like going back in time in this beautiful little town. All the local tour guides did an excellent job of explaining about the history and background of each of the countries and towns we visited. We visited 5 countries in 7 days sailing down the river Danube and seeing all the beautiful countryside as you went and the best part was not even knowing you were on a ship as it was so smooth.I hope to travel again with Viking as my 1st trip was so memorable from start to finish.

A different experience which i thoroughly enjoyed. All these pools inside and outside with different sizes and temperatures was really unique.Only complaint was it was a bit over priced but glad i did it.

Sailing into Budapest at night was the most breathtaking experience of our trip. The next day we did a city tour but unfortunately never stopped a Square of Heroes as we just drove around it a few times. With so much to see in such a large city the place we did go were on the Buda side of the Danube and the view from the top of the hill was stunning.Looking over the city and seeing the Houses of Parliament right on the riverside, beautiful city.

  • Cesky Krumlov
we had about a 2 hr drive from Linz to Cesky Krumlov and it was worth the drive to see this beautiful quaint town in the Czech republic. A bus took us to the top of the hill where there was lovely gardens and a breathtaking view of the town from above with the river running through it.We then walked down into the town with it's cobbled stone streets and lovely shops.Very nice day and local guide was excellent.

  • Melk Abbey
The Abbey is situated at the top of a steep hill and looks impressive as you sail into port.A bus takes you up to the Abbey and then a guide walks you through it explaining all its history and the views from the top overlooking the town and the Danube were stunning. You have the option of getting bus back to ship or walking down the hill through the little town which we did.

It was the only time it rained on the trip and we were given an umbrella by the crew when leaving the ship.Excellent guide who explained everything about the city and the 3 rivers that meet in it.

Bus took us into town and we had about a 2hr leisurely walk through the city and the impressive cathedral.Had the option of going back on bus or spending more time in city centre which we did and got the subway back to near where the ship was.
