We love cruising where you can unpack once and still enjoy multiple locations to tour. we have been on 20 ocean cruises, the last 4 in Europe where we have visited many attractions nearer sea ports. We decided we wanted to see more of the interior of Europe, places we would not see from an ocean cruise. The Viking Grand European river cruise was one of the 2 best cruises we have ever been on. The atmosphere of a river cruise is so different than ocean cruising and Viking made every aspect of the 14 days a real pleasure! The Viking Skirnir was elegant with well appointed staterooms. The dining room had great food and was set up so we met so many more guests and Viking personnel as we dined, people we interacted with the entire voyage. The entertainment management and personnel were always with us on every one of our included and optional excursions ensuring our satisfaction. We have told all our friends about our trip and most have put this type of trip on their bucket list.
The cabin was compact but had everything we needed and was well appointed.
Great way to see the 2 cities
booked as the sound of music tour we were bussed up close to the alps and visited places associated with the Van Trapp family. We even had singers perform many of the movie's songs while we ate lunch.
Walking tour of the city was great. we even sampled their "bacon" beer
tour encompassed a lot about the 3rd reich and it's beginning
we went on the Rothenburg tour which many people said would be great but I was not impressed
Others who saw the Marksburg castle said it was great but after reading the climbing that was necessary we decided just to view the city on our own
