This cruise from Rome to Barcelona included several islands that we hadn't been to in the western Mediterranean. It also was a winter getaway, so we experienced some really nice (and warmer) weather than northeastern US at that time. This was our first trip on Viking, and we found the idea of sailing on a new ship of great interest. We loved that the ship was relatively small and did NOT have many of the "amenities" of the larger ships, such as smoking, casino, photographer, etc. The staterooms with their verandas and spacious (the biggest we've ever encountered in our cruise travels) bathrooms. We loved the casual dress and open seating in the restaurants. We did, however, dress up for new year's eve--the staff put on a great party and celebration for everyone. The restaurants and food were fabulous. We loved the two pools, one with the retractable roof and the other in the spa area, which was like a giant jacuzzi. Entertainment and port tours were great. We were glad not to be "nickel and dimed," so we appreciated the included tours, internet, specialty restaurants, and tips. We would highly recommend Viking oceangoing cruises and can't wait to take our first Viking river cruise in the near future.
The cabin we had was the best we've ever had on a cruise (we've been on some dozen cruises over the past 20 years). We really appreciated the size of the room, the veranda, and, most importantly, the bathroom--the only cruise we've been on where we both could be using the bathroom at the same time.
