This was our first cruise on Viking. Everything was excellent; as good or better than our previous river cruise on another line. The staff, rooms, food, tours, and briefings were tailored to our mature fellow passengers.
The embarkation at Amsterdam was one of the few issues that could have been improved. We were advised of three possible docking locations ahead of time, but when we emailed the ship on the sailing day, we were told the Hiln was now at a fourth location, well out of town. We had to take an expensive taxi ride and search for the proper pier.
We were also disappointed by the advance booking process. We planned to take another Viking river cruise in 2017 and were interested in Viking's certificate program -- buy one (or more) for $100, worth $200 towards our next cruise. Viking's telephone representatives assured us that we could put a deposit on the 2017 cruise, then buy the certificates on our 2016 cruise. However, once on the ship, the concierge said the certificates could not be applied to an existing reservation.
