  3. Norwegian Getaway
We like Norwegian as it is our 4th cruise on this cruise line. We decided to take this cruise 8 days before as it had a Western Caribbean cruise itinerary & Costa Maya was one of the stops we wanted to visit. .We wanted to try the Getaway for it was only 2 years old & liked the lay out of the ships decks from our research. Have sailed on the Norway (A neat older ship & only our 2nd cruise but hooked us on cruising. The other ships the "Dawn" & the "Pearl" both were unique & we really liked both of them. So we knew the "Getaway" was a no brain-er. We have cruised other cruise lines as we have always chosen price & itinerary as most important but Norwegian is one of our favorites based on our experiences on all 4 ships we have been on. From the moment we got to the Port of Miami we had a very easy time getting thru the check points & an easy embarkation. Was on board at 12:10 & proceeded to explore the ship. WHAT WE LIKED ABOUT THE GETAWAY. A very clean modern decor with plenty of room as we went around the ship. Loved the Tropicana Restaurant where they had ballroom music to dance to while we dined. Also we ate every day at O'Sheehan's Bar & Grill where we were away from the crowds that were in the Garden Cafe although we ate there on a port day where we decided to stay on the ship. thought the food was very nice & great variety. This was a relaxing cruise for us so did not do many of the activities (which are numerous) on board. The staff on board was very efficient & always asking if there was any thing they could do for us. We had a balcony (our First) room deck 12 towards the front of the ship. Was very spacious with over 200 sq ft of space & plenty of storage. Had a long sofa & the bed was toward the balcony slider so you did not have to go around the bed to get to the dresser & sofa area. Well planned out. The entertainment was excellent with two Broadway type shows that exceeded our expectations. "Burn the Floor" was high energetic dance & "Million Dollar Quartet" was super. Great shows. The bands on board were also good & great audience participation especially in the Atrium. Getting off at every port was very easy each time we left the ship. WHAT WE DID NOT LIKE ABOUT OUR CRUISE There was not much to dislike about our cruise except the Getaway Casino was right in an area on deck 7 spread out & no other way around it to get to forward or aft. Again two much smoke smell as it affected other areas of the ship around it. Many people complained as they walked through it. Debarkation was fine for us as we were some of the last to get off the ship (which we planned) & our wait was normal even though others seemed frustrated with having to wait when a jam occurred. Was easy to get our luggage & went through customs quickly once we were allowed off the ship.

Really Nice Ship & Cruise

Cabin Review

Balcony Stateroom
Cabin BX 12128
Pleasantly surprised at the space & layout of our stateroom. Lots of storage space & bathroom was laid out for ease of maneuver. Being 207 sq ft it was easy to get to the bed with the sofa & desk area before the bed & neat little balcony to sit out on which we often did thanks to the wonderful weather. Had a very efficient cabin steward & a couple of times was stopped to ask about our room from 2 of the housekeeping officers & presented their cards to us to make us feel important. Our cabin steward right away remembered our names & always asked how our cruise was going every time we saw him.

This was an all inclusive day resort. Rustic, cozy beach with snorkeling, kayaking, stand up board, swimming, floating beach chairs, & all snacks, drinks, meal included for an all day event We were picked up just outside the Port & taken to the resort from 9:30 to 3:30 & then taken back to the port all as part of the cost of teh excursion. incredible day!! Beautiful reef but had to kayak out to snorkel. Well worth it as one of the highlights of our cruise & best reef we have seen on all our Caribbean cruises.

  • Cozumel
Love Cozumel but had just been there in January so walked the street along the waterfront & from a friend we met on the cruise found a wholesale liquor store & found Tequila & Rum at 1/3 the cost of other places.

Taxi to West Bay Beach to snorkel. Cab ride with another couple $15 @, Entrance Fee to West Bay $10@, to Snorkel out to the reef was 1/4 mile out so had to hire a boat (would not let us swim or go down the beach to swim out) $25 @ because we had our own snorkel gear ($45@) if you used theirs. This was a rip off. Only had 45 minutes to snorkel & had to follow a guide. Was not impressed with the reef as highly touted as it was advertised.
