We chose this cruise because it is the only ship currently sails to Cuba. When checking on the info, we got an incredible deal to go to Dominican Republic for 7 nights. Figured we would try it before going to Cuba which costs 10 times as much. We are so glad we did....this ship was incredible. Have been on at least 20 plus cruises on 5 different cruise lines. This ship is in the British tradition. Lots of wood and very subdued decor. Not a plastic or lucite decor could be found. No wild colors and trashy decor.

We had a balcony room, B56, and our cabin steward, Jorcy, was the best. Our expectations were very low due to the low cost of the fare. We were very pleasantly surprised, this was one of our favorite cruises ever. This is an Impact cruise, where the passengers were encouraged to do some volunteering in the DR. It is not mandatory but is encouraged. Thought it was a great idea.....Hubby went to a home in the DR to teach English to a Spanish speaking family and I went to a Chocolate Factory called Chocal to help prepare cocoa beans for making chocolate. We had a blast, and actually felt like we contributed. We both decided to make water filters, so families that do not have potable drinking water can filter their water supply for clean drinking water. It was an all day project, we shoveled clay, sifted saw dust and saw how silver was added to the mix to clean the bacteria from the water. We kneaded and molded the ceramic filters and then learned how the process worked. We packaged the filters and then took a ride to a local community center, where 4 different families were taught how to use them. Our group of 30 made 30 filters which will supply clean water for 150 people for 5 years. It was hard work, but very satisfying work. Returning to the ship, we swapped stories and experiences with the other passengers. We loved being able to make a difference.

We had great food on the cruise and were able to go to the dining room in shorts. The staff on the ship was incredible! We would love to take this cruise again! The people in DR were very warm and friendly and knew we were there to assist them. This is a very poor country but their current President is trying to educate his people. The Adonia is a great way to see the DR. No casino on this cruise (yeah....think of the $ you will save)!! They do not have nightly shows, but there is usually live music nightly. A great cruise for a great price and you get to do something great for a great reason. I can't wait to go again!!

Cabin Review

Cabin Balcony

Immaculate!! Cabin was great....only drawback was a small shower. The cabin steward, Jorcy was the absolute best we have ever had!!
