Although my wife and I did our best to have a good time, I would not recommend non-smokers or anyone with children cruise on the Breakaway (and likely the Getaway since they are sister ships). For reference, we just cruised to Bermuda at the end of September 2016.

The first issue is with the casino located on Deck 7, mid-ship. It has an open stairway leading to Decks 6 and 8. Smoking is allowed in parts of the casino. Due to poor ventilation and being completely open, the stench of smoke permeates everything between the forward and aft elevators on all three decks (6, 7, & 8 mid-ship). There is no place to escape it and unfortunately, a majority of the restaurants, bars, and activities take place in those areas. As an avid poker fan, I had planned to play in all of the poker tournaments. However, I couldn't go anywhere near the casino due to the level of smoke. It reminded me of the pictures that show smog enveloping cities like Los Angeles or Bejing.

My wife and I developed severe, smoke-induced headaches within minutes of stepping off the elevators. In the many conversations we had with other cruisers, even those that smoked complained about the level of smoke in these areas. You will be relegated to activites in the forward and aft sections. Luckily, this is where the main theatre is on Deck 7, so plan to spend a lot of time there. I would like to call out The Headliners Club on Deck 6 specifically as a problem area. This club is located at the bottom of the center stairs where they keep the 2 sets of double doors open during shows. The smoke from the casino fills the room. Also, Shakers Martini Bar is right next to the center stairs on Deck 8 so it always smells like smoke.

Cabin Review

Balcony Stateroom

Cabin BD

The cabin itself was very nice and everything was comfortable. There was plenty of storage and shelf space for everything we brought. Note, we only had 2 people in the cabin, so if you're travelling with children, you may want to bring a folding shelf to hang in the closet.

Be aware that there are only 2 outlets and neither are by the bed.

Port Reviews

King's Wharf

Easy to navigate. Easy access to taxis, buses, and ferries. Plenty of shopping within walking distance.

New York (Manhattan)

There were some computer glitches that slowed down embarkation. We cleared customs with ease, and had no issues once we had our room keys, but we stood in line for 2 hours waiting to get those room keys.
