We selected cruise in order to scuba dive while seeing French Polynesia islands. The entire experience was excellent, from booking to checking in at LAX La tahiti airlines counter, to being met in Papeete, transported to a lovely hotel to rest until we boarded the Paul Gauguin for 10 glorious days. Then here is a first for us- instead of pushing everyone off the boat at 9am on disembarkment day, we were givien the use of most of the ship and offered lunch on board!
The staff could not do enough- all very professional, friendly who only wanted the best experience for the clients. The ship is lovely- there were 311 on board and so no crowding for getting on/off, no wait for dining, a very intimate feel overall. While the PG doesn't have the "glitz" of newer (and MUCH larger) ships with their multistory grand reception areas, the PG was very tastefully decorated and had great beds and very amble dresser and closets.
A primary reason for us was the diving and the scuba team of 4 headed by David was top notch and did not disappoint. Dive Master Marcel was one of the best we have ever had. And It was REALLY nice to end a dive, get back on the back of the PG and leave all the equipment for someone to clean and have ready for the next dive. The PG also had a great magican "Gustavo" from Brazil who did great tricks and shows. We were also honored to meet Maurice Bligh, the great, great grandson of Admiral Bligh whose presentations were very interesting. Also loved the archeologist/anthropoligist Mark who did several talks about Polynesisan culture- all great and made one appreciate their special culture. If you want a great cruise in a beautiful location, GO on the Paul Gauguin!
There isn't a bad cabin in the whole ship. We were very late in booking and got the LAST cabin ... it was great! Room with 2 portholes but other than that, nothing lacked from the window or balcony rooms
lovely island
We didnt see anthing of Papeet as just arrived from long trip. Good transportatin provided by Paul Gauguin to boat
