We chose the NCL Sun as we've done many NCL cruises in the past and like the Freestyle options, especially since it was just two of us on this cruise. We did Alaska because we've never been there and it was Zika free.
The Boat:
I read here that the Sun was in dry dock earlier this year which was kind of surprising. It looked good for being the smallest and oldest ship in the fleet but I noticed little things that seemed like they should have been addressed in dry dock such as discolored and cracked toilet seats, leaking showers, and broken phones. Because the boat is so small, I could smell smoke from the casino from most parts of the ship. Also, there is no thermal suite on this ship (our favorite thing to do on cruises!). The gym was large and nice as was the casino. The lounges were very small and the ship was set up kind of awkwardly (had to walk through one dining room to get to a specialty restaurant). There also didn't seem to be a lot to do on sea days because it was cold and rainy outside. They did the usual shows and bingo but, it didn't seem like there was enough offered based on the weather. It seems there was more offered during our Caribbean cruises although we spent most of our time outdoors or in the spa. Our room was one of the more spacious indoor cabins and was comfortable outside of the leaking shower. The staff was very friendly.
We didn't do an excursion here as we wanted to relax and explore the town on our own but, that was a mistake. The town is small and there's not a lot to do. I heard many fellow passengers say the lumberjack show as good and I now wish I had done that.
We just sailed through Glacier Bay but it was so beautiful!
