My brother actually picked this cruise because he had never cruised before and wanted to experience cruising to see for himself why I like it so much. My wife and I have been cruising since 2009 and fell in love with cruising. We take one or two a year, and this year we will be on four cruises. Since we live only three hours from Galveston, we chose a cruise departing from that cruise port going to Cozumel and Progreso on the Yucatan Peninsula. From embarkation to debarkation, the cruise was fantastic. Weather was terrific, seas were calm and it almost felt like you weren't even moving at times. My brother and his wife had an adjoining Ocean Suite staterooms on deck 7. The staterooms were spacious and well appointed. The bath even had a jacuzzi tub and shower combination. Our stateroom steward, Gerry was great. We dined at the MDR and the Lido Buffet. On our final night at sea, my wife and I dined at the Diamond Steak House, compliments of the ship since I won the raffle for the free steak dinner. What luck! It does pay to enter those raffles. For shore excursions, we picked the all inclusive trip to Isla Passion, or Passion Island out of Cozumel. We took the twister boat which makes 180 turns going at a very fast speed. Naturally, everyone got soaking wet every time the driver made one of these turns. Passion Island is a private island. Our drinks and meals were included in the tour. The beach is a beautiful white sand beach with amazing clear blue and turquoise water. It was a wonderful day. In Progreso, we toured the Dzibilchaltun Mayan Ruins not far from Progreso. Our tours guides Jose and a Mayan guide named Chabatta. The guides were very informative about Mayan culture and the building of the ruins. We really enjoyed this tour. Our tour bus brought us directly back to the ship since it was getting close for departure time for our ship. This short cruise from Galveston is definitely recommended for all level of cruisers, from beginners to experienced cruisers.
Our cabin was very spacious and well appointed. We had more than enough closet and drawer space for all our clothes. The bed was very comfortable and the balcony was very large. We had four deck chairs and two tables on the balcony. The bath had two sinks and a jacuzzi tub with shower. There was also a couch in our stateroom. The TV stations were limited, but we did not spend much time in the stateroom except late in the evening.
We love visiting Galveston whenever we can. Cruising out of this port is very convenient for us.
