Great ship, exceptional service and as a first cruise, overall very enjoyable. Highlights: Very well appointed stateroom with balcony. Very clean and well presented with comfortable bed. Great housekeeper (Idacio?). Plenty of storage. Food - all restaurants operated to a very high standard both in regard of food and service. Least favorite was the main dining room, the Grand Cuvee. They tried hard to sprinkle a bit of magic dust to create a more sophisticated ambience but it was loud, crowded, slightly rushed and food was just ok. The specialty dining restaurants we really liked as these felt like a typical high street restaurant; a bit more intimate and more varied food selections. Yes you pay around £20-£30 per head premium to dine but it offers a nice amount of variety to each night on the ship. We also had a couple of 'down' nights where we used the buffet restaurant; the food up there is so varied and great quality that what it lacked in atmosphere it made up for in having total freedom to choose what you wanted. Entertainment - the ships Entertainment Director worked tirelessly across all manner of functions. He hosted and drove some great party nights (pool party and the masked theme party where exceptional). The theatre shows where fine - a little bit cheesy in places but the gymnast/cirque de soleil elements where the highlight. Didn't like 'Pearl' as it was aimed more at kiddie/family cruise than an adults cruise (although the special effects at the beginning where clever). The Beatles tribute band where excellent and it was the only night every theatre seat was taken. Didn't like the musical theatre soloist - music was to downbeat and boring (although I do like musical theater in general!). Tenors of Rock where also pretty good. Public areas - very high standard of presentation and fixtures/fittings where good quality. The areas with sun beds where 'congested' with sunbeds literally packed in to the extent you couldn't event put your book or drink down next to your bed. Oveall though, clean and good quality. Staff - rarely even a hint of forced politeness with most staff encountered from maintenance people to officers being routinely polite and smiling. Overall, a great trip without any hint of stuffiness. The general crowd was aged mainly 40-60 with most guests up for a good time (most bars and functions in the evening where well attended and rocking). Even though most people where on drinks packages it was quite refreshing to see that most people weren't hammering it from the moment the bar opened and I didn't spot anyone who had obviously overdone it drink wise during the whole trip.

Excellent, indulgent vacation; it's all about the ship.
