We choose the Norwegian Pearl Alaskan cruise to celebrate our 20 wedding anniversary. We had never cruised before and were excited about the new adventure. We were not disappointed. The embarkation went smoothly and was an opportunity to meet fellow travelers. The boarding was seamless and the entire cruise exceeded our expectations. The ship was elegantly appointed, dining options were plentiful, entertainment and shows were spectacular and our cabin steward was so helpful. We took the White Pass Railway excursion followed by the panning for gold with "Happy" the prospector. Loved the Railway, but not thrilled with the "panning for gold," adventure. It seemed to be geared more to children with limited historical information. Since it was just us "Old-timers" it seemed juvenile. A must is the railway, but would forego the "panning..." We also booked the Dolphin Whale Watching cruise (not through Norwegian, though). Since this is what is termed as the shoulder season, we only spotted 2-3 whales, but only their tails. Very informative though. Overall our experience was outstanding and we will cruise with Norwegian again.

Mid-Ship Inside

Cabin IA

Since we had never cruised before and did not know what to expect in the way of sea sickness. I research this site prior to booking. We book a mid-ship inside on the 9th floor, which was excellent!! No sea sickness at all, just the gentle rocking which soothed us to sleep each night. Although we were able to turn the television into the channel to see the front of the ship, next time we will book a mid-ship cabin but with a balcony (or at least a window).

Glacier Bay

National Park Service Rangers boarded the ship and were available for questions and answers throughout our time in the Glacier. Very good information.

Ketchikan

We did not book an excursion because we were told that we could visit the totem pole area, as self-guided. Unfortunately, we were only able to visit Totem Heritage Center. Although very educational, no guides were on site for explanation of culture or meaning of totem poles. I would book the guided tour, if you want explanations.
