The steak that DH said was the best he ever had!

This was only our 2nd cruise. The first was on Celebrity to Alaska, so we went in to this believing that nothing would compare to that cruise and had low expectations. (We chose this one because we live in Texas and wanted to do a cruise out of Galveston so we didn't have to fly) We were amazed. The Liberty is a beautiful ship. Embarkation was a breeze and disembarkation went very quickly as well. (We did self-assist)

We had a balcony cabin (8298) and our stateroom attendant was great. The room was always clean and we had towel animals every night (only on formal nights on Celebrity). The only time we had a problem was when the TV remote just suddenly stopped working - we were trying to turn the TV off before going to dinner and it wouldn't work at all. We saw our SA in the hallway and told him about it and when we got back, it was working again. :)

I had heard and read about how the food was not good on Royal, and honestly didn't expect it to be as good as Celebrity... but wow. We ate in the dining room every night and LOVED everything we had. My husband is a huge steak lover and the steak he got on the first night he said was probably the best steak he has ever had. That's saying a lot. We sat at a 4-top so we dined with another couple and all of us thought the food was simply wonderful every night. We had room service for breakfast twice - it was good. The other days we went to the Windjammer and it was also good. They had made-to-order omelets but I never wanted to stand in the line, so I usually just got scrambled eggs (they were just okay) and some kind of meat and a pastry. DH and I are BIG bacon lovers.... so the only disappointment in the food to us was the bacon. We had it in room service, Windjammer, and in the MDR for breakfast and all 3 places it was inedible. Super-greasy and floppy and just gross. But we didn't get anything else that we didn't like so cheers to the food on Liberty!!

Cabin Review

Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin E3

I had read that after the ship refurb, people were complaining about hard mattresses, so I mentioned it to our TA and she requested a mattress topper be placed on our bed. We both slept SO good every night - super comfortable bed! Plenty of closet space and drawer space for us and the cabinet in the bathroom as plenty big as well. Shower is tiny but I love that it has doors - I hate curtains! Sofa was nice especially when we had room service. We loved our stateroom.

Port Reviews

Costa Maya

Went shopping in the port and all of the salespeople in the little huts are extremely pushy!! They had lots of neat stuff, but every time I pointed at something to show my husband, they'd grab it and shove it at me! It was exhausting! The swimming pool area with swim up bars were really nice but we didn't use them. We bought a few souvenirs and headed back to the ship.

Galveston

We arrived in Galveston the day before and stayed in the Country Inns & Suites. It was a nice hotel and we had a balcony and could see Pleasure Pier and the beach from there. We walked down to Fish Tales (or Tails?) for dinner and the Cadillac Margarita and the food were wonderful. Left our car in the hotel parking lot and took the hotel shuttle to the Port at 10 am Sunday morning. Our car was safe and sound when we returned. :)
