Our travel agent suggested AMA Waterways for our first river cruise. We selected cruising from Basel to Amsterdam with the pre-cruise option that included tours of Zurich, Lucerne and Basel. We pre-paid for AMA transfer from the Zurich airport, but it appeared that hiring a taxi on your own would have been easy. You will need Swiss francs.

At our hotel, we were met by our excellent Cruise Director, Csaba Tamas, who gave us an orientation and saw to our every need prior to and during the cruise. We exchanged money for Swiss Francs to pay for small items during our stay in Switzerland. Credit cards were accepted at restaurants, museums and large purchases in shops. Tourist shops will take Euros but your change will be in Swiss francs. Have small change for public toilet facilities.

Hotels: ZURICH: Hotel Continental Zurich – good location, rooms were small, terrific breakfast buffet (included), lunch and dinner on our own
