We have cruised with Holland America before and really liked them. We got a last-minute sale on one of the Neptune Suites and couldn't pass up the deal. Overall, the cruise was very good. The staff are fantastic---can't say enough good things about them. The ship is older and smaller and starting to show its age. The shows were sort-of blah. The casino is very small. But there weren't a lot of folks waiting to get on tables or slots, so it is probably appropriate for the size of the ship. Our cabin was a Neptune Suite. It was a little smaller than the Neptune Suite we stayed in on our last cruise. It was nice---lots of closets and drawers. The bathroom tub seemed unusually tall and as a short person, I had a little trouble getting out of it. The food was very good in the regular dining room. We tried the Pinnacle Grill and specialty Italian restaurant. We actually liked our meals in the regular dining room more than the specially restaurants. The Lido deck where breakfast and lunch are served was really crowded and hard to find seating. Since our room was on the deck below, we oftentimes just took our food down to our room and ate there. We never tried room service. We took 2 shore excursions through the ship---a helicopter glacier tour in Juneau (fantastic) and the Butchart Gardens and Butterfly Gardens in Victoria (bad). I highly recommend the helicopter tour, even though it was really expensive. I wasn't impressed with Juneau as a whole. Seemed like every other store was a jewelry store that was NOT owned by Alaskan folks. If you like jewelry, then you will love it. We booked an outside tour (Gallant Tours) in Sitka to go whale watching and Paul the owner was fantastic. Highly recommend that tour. We went salmon fishing through Strike Zone in Ketchikan and it was also very good. Don't go on the Butchart Gardens/Butterfly tour in Victoria. It got dark after about 30 minutes and we were walking around in the dark for over an hour---can't see much of the gardens in the dark. And the butterfly garden was like playing Where's Waldo because the butterflies go to sleep at night. I'm not even sure why that tour is offered---such a rip-off. Try to get on the viewing area on Deck 5 when you are at the Hubbard Glacier. We were on Deck 4 and had a front-row viewing place. It would have been disappointing if we hadn't been up front. We couldn't figure out how to get to the Deck 5 area but it seemed like a great place.

Very good cruise!

Cabin Review

Neptune Suite with Verandah
Cabin SB 7037
Very nice deck---quite large. We faced the city in Juneau but not in Sitka or Ketchikan. Lots of storage in the suite but bathroom as a little dated. Room staff were great and we loved having free laundry
