I picked the Carnival Ecstacy cruise ship due the location of the departure being in Charleston SC and the price of just over $400 per person wasn't hard a difficult choice to make. The check in process wasn't to bad compared to the other cruises I've been on they do a good job keeping the line moving with a rolling checkin. My room was a small cabin sleeps 4 on level 5 Main deck. The cabin was typical small budget cruise room style nothing really worth mentioning just a place to sleep and wash up. Our room had an awful smell like rotten eggs and the tv had poor video quality mostly static and snow mixed with the what ever was playing. Otherwise it's what you'd expect from Carnival. The ship overall condition was average for a 25 year old vessel. There was rust and deteriorating metal that needed repair also window trim and gaskets needed to be replaced. Heavily worn doors arm rails and elevators which one was always out of service. The food again was below average mostly just buffet mass production quality slop. The pizza and deli had the best tasting food along with ice cream on tap 24/7 it's still not enough to keep me from suggesting that this cruise is not bad for the budget conscious or new cruiser. Service was average some employees were better than others but overall the workers seem tired and burnt out using less than desirable serving practices like handing burgers over the sneeze guard to try to cut the buffet line down. This isn't a classy cruise so don't expect classy service just a little above McDonalds quality. One board shows were average with good comics but lack luster evening shows and no ship activities like skeet shooting golf driving range etc. There are basic shops on board and expect to be heavily sold too at ever turn mostly tyrant photographers trying to hock their pictures. When I debated the price of an Invicta watch with one shop salesman compared to the price of a Seiko he advised me to go buy it then and walked away. In conclusion this is a cheap party boat looking to get as much money from you as possible once you're on board. Be smart and don't buy anything on the ship and look for prices around $400 per person for your tickets and this can be a decent cruise for your money.
