I went on this cruise with my boyfriend the week of 9/4/16, during Tropical Storm Hermine. We ended up having an amazing time, but I must admit, I was nervous to be sailing in such rough seas despite having been on multiple other cruises and never getting sick.
Embarkation was slightly hectic, but, I fully expected this because we were notified to arrive in port early due to the storm. As a result, people were checking in at whatever time they arrived rather than spread out according to the time you pre-selected during online check in. I'd imagine that things are usually a tad smoother as our situation was so unique with the storm (most of the previous passengers were still disembarking as people were arriving). The captain planned to leave by 1:30pm instead of 4 so that we could have safer travels, however, we didn't pull out until 3pm. The life boat drill always takes place at 3pm so we were stuck inside and unable to party on deck during sail-away. This made us angry, but again, we knew this was for our safety and it is NOT the norm. We did make it to the top deck in time to see going under the Verazano. Other sailings will not have this issue.
I loved our captain - he gave us multiple updates about the storm and our sailing conditions each day and I felt very safe. We had 22-26ft waves for the first 48 hours and the Breakaway handled it quite well. Bonine works like a charm. ;)
The cabin was an average size as compared to other ships that I have been on. We enjoyed the balcony but our view was obstructed. There was a large overhang that extended below us, however, the view was still great overall and it almost made things feel more private. My one complaint about the stateroom was that the storage was all shelving and there were no drawers (made it slightly inconvenient to store my underwear and socks but whatever lol).
We are from NJ so getting to the port day of was convenient for us.
