I used this site a lot leading up to our cruise so thought I'd add our own opinions/tips: Background - my husband & I are in our early 50's. Have been on 7 prior cruises (Carnival five times due to affordability/embarkation port and Disney twice with our kids) We believe a lot of your experience on vacations is what you make of it and that some people will complain about anything so we took negative reviews with a grain of salt.
Warning - my review may be lengthy, but I wanted to cover things that I thought might be helpful.
The ship itself was huge but great-- we found our way around quicker than some of the smaller ships we've been on because the layouts made sense (restrooms in same place on each floor; all "entertainment" type areas in back of ship; etc) and didn't feel like we walked any more than if we stayed at an "all-inclusive" resort somewhere. We don't like to lay out in the sun all day, but did enjoy the Solarium/adult only pool/hot tubs and they typically weren't overly filled (note we did go after Labor day so may not have been as many people/kids as during the summer months)
Loved having a balcony. We enjoyed the 8th deck since so close to elevators/stairs and Central Park (we could just walk through there to get to front of ship pretty easily)
Just did some shopping in the cruise port area -- lots of locals trying to get you to come into their shops or take their taxis which we weren't interested in so just politely told them no and it was fine
We flew in a day early and stayed at the Courtyard -- nice hotel and transportation to port was easy
