We had been looking to do a European cruise for a couple years to celebrate milestone birthdays and when the new Vista was announced, we jumped on it for several reasons.. (1) The new ship looked to be amazing with a brand-new "Havana" area that included private cabins, private pool and hot tubs, as well as private bar, etc. - sounded wonderful!
(2) The itinerary hit several of the places we wanted to visit
(3) The price was good
(4) We had sailed with Carnival before and always had a great experience in the past
Unfortunately, this cruise turned out to be the worst Carnival cruise we have ever taken and left us wondering if we will take another one...not another cruise but another Carnival Cruise. And, unfortunately, we met several other couples who felt (and expressed) the exact same thing. The food- overall- was awful! Probably the worst we've had on any cruise line. The Havana area could be fantastic if they kept it private for the guests who booked the Havana Cabanas and Suites (which we did). However, they open it up to the entire ship at 7pm and it was chaos every day once that happened. Most of the days at port were long so we wouldn't get back on the ship until 5:30p-6p. So, we got very little time to enjoy the area prior to the flood gates of heathens opening. It was very disappointing.
In addition, the service throughout the ship was poor - actually, extremely poor. There were a few exceptions here and there - the guys in the Sports Bar were great, one of the guys (has been with Carnival 10 years) at the Atrium Bar was wonderful - but overall - the worst service we have ever received on a Carnival cruise or any cruise line in the past. Overall - we left the ship feeling disappointed. I was so upset, as we booked the cruise 15 months or so in advance and had been looking forward to it all that time. It had been my dream birthday trip for years and it was so far from a dream. My advice is look at other options - I know we will!
Overall the cabin was fine - it was slightly smaller than we expected but it did have the larger balcony with lounge chairs and a hammock chair; As shown, the lounge area opened up to the deck of the boat which gave us the private access to the private "Havana" area.....the only problem is the "private" area was only private until 7pm and then they open it up to everyone on the ship. So at 6:59pm and counting a flood of people would take over and kids would be running wild without supervision, It was awful!! We purposely booked the Havana area to have the private access and the ability to get away from the masses. Once the masses showed up - it was a nightmare - kids jumping in the hot tub and doing cannon-balls in the pool and hot tub. And, I must say that both are VERY small because they were designed for a private area. It ruined our experience every day! In fact - one of the two hot tubs in the Havana area remained closed/drained throughout the entire cruise - we were finally told it was because they couldn't keep control of the area with both open because of the kids. So - you'd be sitting in the hot tub or the pool (again... a very, very small pool and small hot tub) talking to other adults who wanted the same experience as ourselves and in rushed the kids - tipping your drinks over or drenching you and your drink wile their parents looked on.
Montserrat was beautiful - the views were simply amazing!
We booked the Taormina on Your Own - nice but not long enough; Just enough time to get down most of the street and grab a bite and you have to head back to get on the bus; The one bad thing - the AC on the bus we were on didn't work and it was miserable... hot, hot, hot!View All 101 City Tour Reviews
Simply stunning! We did the Capri and Amalfi Coast by Boat tour - so incredibly beautiful. Again, the only bad thing is it's so rushed you don't get to enjoy it all and see everything you want to see. But, definitely a place we will go back to!View All 284 Amalfi Coast Reviews
Good option with limited time; It was one tour that took you to The Colosseum, a very small portion of the Vatican Museums and St. Peter's Basiica/Square. The Colosseum was amazing to see in person.
Cassis was another hidden gem! We took a bus through the city center - which was wonderful to see on it's own - and to Cassis. Once in Cassis - we were led by our guide to the center of town by the marina where we had approx 2 - 2 1/2 hours on our own. We chose to take one of the boat tours to see the sights and loved it. Once back from the boat tour - we explored some of the shops, enjoyed some of the local food and wine prior to meeting back with our group. Another fantastic tour!View All 37 Cassis Walking Tour Reviews
This was amazing! We did the "Soller by Train" tour - fantastic! We were bused to the train station - which has this cute little bar while you're waiting. The train trip was wonderful - you pass through these amazing views. Once you get to Soller - you have time to explore this quaint little town and then are bussed back to port. As with all of the tours - we wished we had a little more time in Soller - it was only around 40-45 minutes. But so glad we went - we loved the area!View All 17 Soller Walking Tour Reviews
We enjoyed this tour more than most because it was the only one where we didn't feel so rushed. However, we were upset we missed Florence and Cinque Terre.
