If this had been my first Royal Caribbean Cruise it would have been my last.

I've sailed with Royal Caribbean numerous times and this is the first time I have been totally disappointed. The food service was the worst. Hot dishes were at best lukewarm and sometime cold. Nothing quite as bad as cold, greasy, lintel soup. The hamburgers in the Windjammer were not edible. Not sure how long they had been cooked but they were tasteless globs. I would think it would take some real effort to screw up a hamburger but it seems they can.

Chops Grill has really lowered their food standards. They still have the standard $35/person charge but to get a good steak you are looking at $19 additional and for a lobster $21 extra. On other RC ships a Prime Rib had been offered, but no longer, I choose a NY Strip. I ordered it medium and what I got was burned on the outside and almost raw in the middle. Looked like the whole bit had been rushed. Steak had very little taste and was not tender. Wait staff was nice but there wasn't much they could do if the kitchen wasn't putting out a good product.

Customer Service was not the best. I received a written notice that I had received a $25 on board credit, when I had documentation that the amount was $225. When I went to customer service with my documentation the answer was "$25 is all that is showing." When I pushed a bit harder the agent said, "i'll call your travel agent and let them tell you." TA was called and I told my agent what had occurred. She assured me that the amount was $225. and I asked her to tell that to the customer service person. After she spoke to him he very curtly told me that the credit hadn't shown up but he had found them. Never a kind word and better yet, I never received a written notice of the correct amount. When I got my final bill the correct amount did show. I still wonder why the customer agent couldn't be pleasant and offered to look into the matter rather than acting like I was trying to misrepresent the facts.

Cabin Review

Junior Suite

Cabin JS

A couple of things to remember about the Junior Suites at the rear of the ship, they are a long way from the elevator and if you have any limitations on mobility you should not get these suites. Also, even though the cabins and balconies are non-smoking, the crew has a smoking area in the area just behind the balconies. Also, the way these cabins are situated there is very little air movement which makes the balconies hot. I have already mentioned the uncomfortable beds, so I'd make sure there were foam pads available. A person in an adjacent cabin told me she had brought a foam pad from home.

On a positive note, the Junior Suites are roomy and have plenty of storage space. I was invited to a seminar that pushed upgrading to a regular suite in order to really enjoy the cruise experience. Many people can't afford to pay these rates but if not should we expect to receive second class service? Hopefully, this won't be the case.

Port Reviews

Galveston

I live 15 miles away and makes it easy for me to cruise. I like to cruise once every couple of months. Boarding was easy and well organized.

Falmouth

Dismal place. The shops inside the fenced area are very limited. In a previous cruise I went outside the fenced area into the town area and thought I was in a third world country. People assailed you to buy from them, take a trip, or just ask for money. This time I walked into the shops and watched some young people dance in front of one of the shops. It was also very hot and you had to find a shady spot or head back to the ship.

Cozumel

Visited many times but still enjoy stopping. People are friendly and lots of beach options available.

Grand Cayman (Georgetown)

If you like to shop you'll enjoy this port. Tendering can be a pain. For me the only reason I go ashore is to visit the library and use their internet service. If you do like to shop bring lots of money as there are many jewelry stores.
