We wanted to cruise the Inside Passage of Alaska and chose Holland America because it appeared that the balcony / vista suite rooms were a bit larger than normal. This wasn't necessary true. They were nice and very clean but a bit cramped width wise for 2 people. We also had a problem with the electrical outlets - or should I say the lack thereof. Only 1 useable outlet in the room unless you unplugged the DVD player and there were none in the bathroom. I had trouble getting ready because of this and because the lighting was very poor by the vanity. There was a lighted makeup mirror but it wasn't much help. The hair dryer they provided runs on 220v power so the only other outlet was 220.
We also found ourselves wondering what to do on those long stretches at sea. Sitting on the deck or in the casino only goes so far so we were always anxious to get off the ship to go sightseeing. We were fortunate to have beautiful weather for the entire trip with only one fairly bumpy night at sea. I guess for our group it would have been ideal to have less time at sea and more time ashore but that's not possible on a ship whose top speed is around 25 mph.
It was a fun trip and the crew was fantastic but not something I'd be interested in doing again.
The cabin was very clean and comfortable but not quite a large as we assumed. Our room attendant Wan was wonderful and exceeded our expectations. He seemed to have a sixth sense about our needs. The biggest downside to the cabin was the lack of electrical outlets. We had to schedule time to charge phones and to use flat irons etc.
