This was our 2nd of 2 cruises we undertook on an 8 week U.S.A. & Canada trip. The 1st cruise being the Vollendam and Alaskan inside passage. Like chalk and cheese the Veendam cruise was very disappointing in terms of customer service and value. By the 2nd morning we were so sick of the rude Lido bar breakfast staff we dined in the Rotterdam room from then on. Lido staff were surly, ignored guests and parsimonious in their serves of food at all meals. They behaved as if we were interrupting their lives.
Internet on the ship, like the Vollendam, was expensive and almost never worked.
The Rotterdam room at dinner was a real experience of micro colonialism with the "euro" overlords swanning around and making the real workers nervous. Their actual purpose is a mystery to me.
Acceptable.
We took a map and toured this fantastic city ourselves.
Found independant tour cheaper but we walked the city and shoreline and enjoyed free entertainment at the arts centre.
Rained all day, no free courtesy bus to town. Restricted to the ports shops and museum which was interesting nevertheless.
Walked the boardwalk ourself and caught the Dartmouth ferry.
Attractive town, did some shopping and walked along the inlet.
We left here for an air BnB.
