We chose Avalon because of the stateroom design. The Avalon Expression was beautiful, clean, well designed and the crew was excellent. We selected the Royal suite because we spend a lot of time in our room rather than the lounges. It was spacious, well appointed, comfortable, and we felt well worth the extra cost.
The cruise director was very informative and made it easy to arrange excursions. The included excursions were excellent. We did purchase a few additional excursions and thought them very reasonable and worth the cost. The scenery was gorgeous from the upper deck.
Our only disappointment was with the meal selections. There were 4 standard meals that never varied: filet of beef, chicken breast, Caesar salad, or fish and chips. They also offered 3 daily specials consisting of a meat, fish or vegetarian selections. We enjoyed the meals for the first few nights and then it became very repetitious The dining room was noisy and the service took about 2 hours every night. Music in the dining room was way too loud. The servers were very good. The restaurant manager seemed more concerned with his schedule than the guests. While the tables were lovely, they were over set. By the second week of the cruise, we were eating most of our meals on shore just to have something different and not be dining until after 9 at night.
The cabin was very roomy, well appointed, well laid out, comfortable bed, Our steward was attentive and maintained the room very well. Well worth the extra cost.
Gave an interesting view of the city
A must see.
