My husband and I had always wanted to experience a viking river cruise. Definitely a "bucket list" sort of deal. Our trip took us from Amsterdam to Basel, Switzerland. The ship was very lovely, the staff and service was world class, and the food...wow! Weather could not have been better, outside of some rain for the first two days, but not a big deal.
There was a Viking rep at the airport waiting for us and the wait to leave on the shuttle was not bad at all. We were very grateful for this after a 24 hour journey to get there. The only thing to mention regarding air travel, which we organized through Viking, is that the connections were very tight. This is something to really watch for when planning flight times. Go as direct as possible and make sure you have at least 2 hours between connections.
Upon arrival at the ship, one huge surprise was the age demographic. 95% seniors which was a shock to us. Viking is not clear at all in their marketing that this is an older crowd. We definitely felt like we stuck out like a sore thumb being so much younger than most other guests.
Very cozy and comfortable. Nice water pressure in the shower. Our room was well attended to.
We skipped out on the morning stroll because there were 150 guests going at the same time. The ship was docked very close to the town so we went on our own to explore. Very beautiful place! Lots of pubs and shopping. Although the shopping is all very touristy.
Very nice city but again not near enough time to explore.
We arrived on a Sunday. Most everything was closed. We did go to the Music Museum on our own but didn't have enough time to really enjoy it to the fullest before having to catch the shuttle back to the ship.
