Trip Details
  • Sail Date: Nov 2015
  • Destination: Trans-Ocean
  • Cabin Type: Deluxe Ocean View

Looking for a different place to visit on ship that I had been on before. Received an E-mail from Oceania Cruise Line on their cruise from Capetown to Rio 14 days. The cruise line included a three day land tour including hotel in South Africa.

The cabin was large the bathroom had a tub the counter top was small but there was additional room for personal items on the shelves on the sides of the mirror.

The refrigerator was stocked with water, beer and soft drinks. The room was a good size for a ship with a sofa and desk with chair. The Internet service was poor. The TV had some of the major news and business channels.

There are four specialty restaurants. The main dining room and the buffet dinning area. The food was always very good. The staff was outstanding.

The Entertainment was very good. There were several activities during the day. The ship carries about eleven hundred passengers. There is no movie theatre aboard. There is a casino, library and several bar on the ship.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Ocean View

The cabin was very good size for a cruise ship. The window is full size offering an excellent view from the room. The tv reception was very good. The ship schedule was published daily and delivered the night before.

City Tour

This was a part of the cruise package. The city tour point out the main sights around the city. The place that I remember the most is the registration office all adult had to have an Identification card. There were curfews and if a resident did not have his identification card or was out after curfew he could be fined four months or pay or be sent to jail.

Cape Town

We elected to book our own air. We flew from Los Angeles to Istanbul aboard Turkish Airlines. We stayed in Istanbul for two days. We flew Turkish Airlines from Istanbul non stop to Capetown. We used a local transfer service from the airport to the hotel. We arrived two days prior to the package arranged by the cruise line. We stayed at the Westin Hotel for the first two days. The last three days at the Westin Hotel was included in the cruise package. Tours were all very good. We took a cab to the pier to board the ship. The tour of Bobben Island was very good. The area near the ferry to Robben Island is next to a very large mall. The ferry ride over the Robben Island took about 20 minutes. We were greeted by a guide who loaded the passengers from the ferry on buses. Each bus had a guide that stayed with us during the tour of the island.

Stellenbosch House Museum

Part of the cruise package. A medium size country city famous for it wine. There were shops and sights to visit.

Rio de Janeiro

We stayed three days after the cruise at the Sheraton Hotel. We took a cab from the ship to the hotel. We had to walk a couple of blocks from the pier to get a taxi. There were long lines near the pier for cabs. We were in Rio the year before so we didn't take any tours. We did take an independent tour of Samba Show at night. The Sheraton Hotel provides free shuttle service from the hotel to the beaches and downtown. We took a cab from the hotel to the airport and flew home on United Airlines.
