Sail Date: Mar 2009
Cabin: Deluxe Ocean View Stateroom with Balcony

We booked a guarantee balcony cabin and were allocated one on deck 10 close to the Bridge.  It was very quiet so we were quite pleased with the allocation.  We had looked at a Junior Suite but the extra cost just did not seem worth it.The ship was as we remembered and the condition was very good, considering that it was now 7 years old.  As ever the staff were great and friendly, possibly with the exception of the singers and dancers, generally they were aloof and did not really want to talk to passengers.DiningWe had requested a table of 6-8 and were allocated a table for 2 in the Spanish section, next to the entrance.  Not a great table, although the waiters were great and made up for the disappointing allocation.  We did consider asking for a swoop but just couldn't be bothered with the hassle.Much was made of the fewer courses, but I cannot see the problem, there is plenty of food and if we wanted more, we just asked for it, not an issue. The Windjammer service and selection was good, although sometimes there was an issue with getting somewhere to sit.We tried Chops and Portofino's and both were good, although usually filled with staff.CutbacksWe noticed several cut backs and little ways to raise more cash from the guests, including, watered down orange juice, higher charges for gym classes, no chocolates on the pillows at night, no lobster, less staff around to order drinks etc.We noticed that they attempted to reserve 2-3 rows at the front of the theatre for suite guests, although they only did this on some nights after people had sat down, seemed to be badly organized and thought out.We would still sail with Royal Caribbean again, although it is not the same standard as when we first sailed.  Having said that, it is worth remembering that we now pay less than 50% of what we paid for our first cruise, so the few little cutbacks are worth suffering for a 50% discount! We are going to try Celebrity next time.
