We chose this cruise to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. Admittedly, we're neophytes to this mode of transportation-entertainment. Our only other cruising experience had come as many years earlier - a wedding gift from my mom. Southeast Alaska is spectacularly beautiful, isolated and arguably best visited by ship. We were excited to go but our expectations proved unrealistic.
Our stateroom was comfortable but small. A tub and a shower in the bath and a little veranda amidship. Ample closet and storage beneath the bed was a nice surprise and allowed us to make good use of the available space. The veranda was an essential part of our experience, providing a quiet place to escape the crowds and an opportunity to observe the port side of the ship's journey.
The crew was friendly and interactive; a bit obsequious at times but mostly genuine. Activities aboard ship were ample and varied but almost always commercial. Selling to their captive audience is clearly an important part of the Holland-America business plan.

Beautiful. But please, don't paint while the ship is not moving.
A lovely restaurant for the famished cruiser. Popular so reserve early.
Seattle is a lovely city. Don't miss Chihuly Garden and Glass.
