Trip Details
  • Sail Date: Aug 2016
  • Destination: the Western Mediterranean
  • Cabin Type: Balcony

This was our tenth cruise but first with Cunard, so we had lots to compare it with. We were not disappointed. Our cases were quickly taken away at Rome Airport and deposited to our stateroom by the time we arrived on the ship. Checking in was a bit chaotic, but friends who arrived a week later said they 'sailed' through.

Our stateroom a balcony on deck five was light, clean and well maintained. I would say only one downside was the size of television, it was far too small. We were greeted by our steward Joel who was polite and courteous as was his assistant. I asked that the room be cleaned early in the morning and I must say it was by the time we came back from breakfast every day.

The ship was traditional, elegant, tastefully and beautifully decorated and well kept. Our balcony was even painted whilst on board.

We ate most mornings and evenings in the Brittania dining room, yes there was a dress code in the evening but it was so nice to 'dress up', those who didn't want to could go to the Lido to eat.

I had a special diet and the Head waiter could not have been more helpful. nothing was too much trouble. Having been on Celebrity where the self service restaurant was exceptional we wondered what the Lido would be like. There was no overcrowding and the food was just as good. A very wide choice every day 24 hours if you wanted it.The area was kept spotlessly clean and there was always waiters there to help if needed, self service ice cream and soft drinks all day long.

Afternoon tea in the Queens Room was a treat and not to be missed.

Entertainment was mostly of the highest standard, two excellent comedians, excellent to good shows and two excellent groups. Went to hear an excellent Speaker in Baroness Wheatcroft, and a variety of other entertainment throughout the ship.

Dancing throughout the ship from Ballroom to Pop. There were some exceptional passenger dancing couples on the dance floor in the Queen's Ballroom.

We only went on one excursion in Corfu but the guide was excellent.

All staff were well mannered and respectful at all times. Service was exceptional in all areas of the ship.

Again embarkation went pretty smoothly, cases were taken night before departure and as we had 330 flight, we did not leave ship until 1230. We collected cases as airport and had a smooth checking in process, but where was security? no Cunard staff to tell us it was upstairs.

If you like the very traditional type of cruise, this is for you. We would certainly book again. it was two weeks of Pure luxury.
