I just returned from a wonderful cruise aboard the Viking Magni. I couldn't be happier with my decision to cruise with Viking on this ship/itinerary. The ship itself is fairly new (2013) and is well maintained. Since I was traveling alone I had a cabin on the lower deck of the ship. I thought this might turn into a disappointment, but I was well pleased with the cabin, its location, and the cabin service. For example, mid trip when I opened the closet door the light bulb inside the closet died. I thought about contacting housekeeping, but decided I didn't really need the light. The next time I was in the closet, the bulb had been replaced without me ever mentioning it. My room steward was that thorough the whole trip, every detail seen to. The meals on board were outstanding with only one meal being what I would rate only as average. This was due more to the meat cut than the seasoning. When the waiter noticed I was only picking at it he quickly replaced it with a different selection. All the waiters were very attentive and most of the time would anticipate your needs without your needing to ask (drinks filled, bread replaced, etc.) The included ports and tours were very good. There were only two tour guides I had (each grouping had a different guide) that were only average, but most were very informative and entertaining. All of the optional tours I took were exceptional. However, I enjoyed Rothenburg and Schonbrunn palace the most of the tours I booked. Everyone that went had great things to say about the Salzburg and Numerburg War tours as well, but I personally didn't go on those (but after hearing about them I wish I had). There were several on board entertainments offered. These were all well done. My favorite being a glass blowing demonstration. A couple of other thing of note, Viking and the program director did a wonderful job of keeping everyone informed of everything that was taking place. Any types of issues effecting our travels (traffic jam at the locks for us), we were informed as soon as they knew and we were told if and how this would effect our timetable. We were never left guessing what was going on or why. Also I was amazing at how prompt everything was. If the tour bus was supposed to leave for the ship at a certain time, it did. The buses didn't wait on stragglers. I was told that Viking had someone who stayed behind to deal with the late arrivals, but I was never late so I can't speak from experience on that, I was just pleased that since I showed up on time I wasn't left waiting on the bus due to someone else being late. Overall the whole trip exceeded my expectations. From the time I was met at the airport until I was escorted back to the airport, Viking took care of everything. I couldn't have been happier with my experience with Viking and wouldn't hesitate to book with them again. Note: I was a full fare paying passenger on this cruise. I wrote this review because I wasn't finding many recent reviews about the Viking Magni when I was researching my trip and wanted to help others who were considering this ship/trip.
