We chose to go on this cruise because of a very pleasant experience with a Rhine/Danube cruise in June 2015 - a first experience with Scenic. Then we had especially liked the food & overall found nothing to criticise.
That was not the case with this Douro cruise. The food was very ordinary, most was overcooked & it totally lacked subtility & interest. Then one of the so-called enrich events was a tawdry tourist trap. We were especially looking forward to a tapas lunch in Salamanca but found a cheap, barely edible, meal in a charmless, very touristy hotel. In Toulouse, where we live, small restaurants offering tapas abound, & their meals are varied & interesting. The one that Scenic offered bore no resmblance to them.
The personnel were friendly to start with, but when I revealed a certain difficulty walking, some of them became very distant, even rude. I am handicapped but I can generally cope, which I have done on many cruises that we have done with Seabourne - a really luxurious environment.
