  3. Koningsdam
It has the look and feel of a HAL ship and the service is excellent. Entirely to my expectations and very satisfied. Food, service, cleanliness, friendliness of staff, all as you can expect from HAL. Nevertheless, ms Koningsdam with 2.600 passengers is not a midsized ship anymore. The larger number of passengers is especially felt during breakfast hours on the lido deck. Too many people scrambling for their eggs. The new main dining room arrangements that mix free and fixed seatings are chaotic and staff complained about it. The promenade deck has the look of an industrial plant and does not invite to sit there on a deck chair, if there is space at all, and does not invite for a stroll along the ship. I was sorry to hear that HAL has commissioned a second ship in this class, because, in my opinion, they are heading in the wrong direction given their current client base. I agree with other reviewers that the ship has a wobbly feeling when moving forward. Never felt so uncertain on my legs when ashore. You will all know the experience of feeling at sea while you are standing in a shop. However, that will go after a couple of days. On this 14 days cruise it stayed with me for two weeks. Crows nest shudders even when the sea is calm. I never watch shows, shop onboard or visit the casino. So I cannot provide any comments on those. The public spaces without music, art auction, amber sale etc. have been substantially reduced. There is no quiet place on the lower decks where you can watch the waves. When the weather is rough a nice quiet place on a lower deck is much appreciated. Take for instance, the walkway past the CAC. Perfect place for comfortable chairs as on the other ships. Here stand consoles with touch screens that talk about pretentious French cooking terms nobody is interested in. My next cruise will be with HAL again, but not on ms Koningsdam.

Cabin Review

Large Oceanview Stateroom
Cabin E 11003
Larger than normal cabin due to its midship forward position. Located on deck 11 so perfect spot if you like some movement. Big window with a forward view. Standard HAL outfit in pleasant colour scheme. No longer a bath tub but a spacious shower, which must please those who are less agile. Flushing toilets can be heard your neighbours on both sides and be carfeful what you say in the bathroom, because the airduct conveys your voice. Pity they have sacrficed about 8 inches (20 centimenters) of space. It has a feeling of crampedness about it.
