We were originally supposed to take a two week Mediterranean cruise on NCL, but with recent events, we decided to change it to a land tour/cruise in Alaska. We had been to Alaska a number of years ago, but wanted to go back.
First the land tour. The land tour basically consisted of bus riding and train riding. 95% of the trip I would say. Didn't really get to see Fairbanks, or Anchorage. The Gold Dredge tour was fun, as was visiting the sled dogs. We spent 8 hours in Denali park on a school bus and saw some sheep high in the mountains. Not the fault of anyone, of course, but the 8 hours was way too much.. Could have done it in 4 with the same outcome. The Alaska Zoo was nice and at least we got to see some animals. The tour guide and bus driver (Tom) were terrific. The only good thing about the land tour was that we did it before the cruise. I would not recommend this.
The cruise:
Beautiful and big!!!! Although the description says Penthouse, it was actually a Deluxe Alt Family Suite. Separate sitting area, bathroom with a shower and separate tub. Big balcony. Coffee maker, DVD player. Snacks everyday and fresh fruit. Being Aft was the best since we sat out on the balcony and had no wind ever. Was awesome when they turned to leave the glacier!
Average tourist destination. Red Dog Saloon is great.
