I have always wanted to see Alaska. I had been on one cruise before (San Diego-Ensenada) with Carnival years ago and said, "never again". Well, I can honestly say, "Never again" for sure this time. I guess I am not a cruiser.
The ship was nice, our room was very comfortable. It was always cleaned every time we left the room. (although I never knew who our cabin steward really was). The food was just okay. A little too gourmet for my taste. The one night they had lobster, I was happy. I guess I thought a Celebrity Cruise to Alaska would have crab, lobster, prawns, all kinds of seafood. I was wrong. If you wanted crab, you had to go to a specialty restaurant. Lobster was served one day only. The New York steaks were a joke they were so thin. The salads were good.
The service was fine. If you don't mind saying what you want a bunch of times with a lot of hand gestures. The language gap on these ships is pretty discouraging. The couple who cruised with us, felt the same way. You couldn't understand what 85% of the ship crew were saying. I "get" that they're hired from struggling countries, and I appreciate that they're given jobs, and I know they work hard, but please make sure they can communicate in English before hiring them. PLEASE!! I teach English as a second language, so I know I'm pretty good at understanding broken English, but some of these people were completely unable to communicate.
Cabin was nice, comfy bed. There was a pillow menu and when I called asking for a body pillow, I guess they didn't understand my request. I asked on 4 different occasions, but never got one. We had a balcony, which is a must. Very nice to be on the balcony and watch the water.
