This was my second cruise (also on Royal C but on Adventure of the Seas) but this was my husband's first. We chose a five-day to Grand Cayman and Key West in order for him to experience cruising to see if it was something he would enjoy. The destinations were also for his comfort zone but I didn't mind. Although I've cruised before, I will attempt to review it as a first timer and not compare - maybe. :)
Impressions:
Arrival at Miami Pier - we arrived fairly early (10 am) so there was a bit of a transition and some congestion between those passengers departing and us arriving. But we were in no hurry so kept in mind that we were on vacation and a bit of congestion was nothing to be concerned about and would be on board soon enough at 11. Check in was easy and the staff friendly and helpful. Going through security wasn't any problem either.
The tunnel from Miami to the port was fabulous and quick. We didn't stay in Miami but it looked sleek and would have provided everything anyone would need.
We ended up not taking a tour or a guided tour but walked around. Was great to see the island life up close, the restaurants and 7-mile beach. Was fabulous for a few hours. The tender from the ship to shore was quick and easy. Would love to come back for a full vacation to really explore the islands.
We loved walking around Key West. We toured Ernest Hemingway's House and Museum and walked through the small streets and walked around the Truman Annex. Was gorgeous but walking in the July humidity was a killer for me but wouldn't miss it for anything.
