Sail Date: Jun 2016

We wanted to see Norway, go above the Arctic Circle, visit the northern Scottish isles and see Iceland (an extension). This was a new ship and this was its first sail on this route. The ship was beautiful. The public spaces were light, comfortable and cleanly designed. And they generally were not crowded. We spent most of our time in the Explorer Lounge watching the scenery and the midnight sun. There seemed to be plenty of spaces throughout the ship to easily serve the guests. The staff was incredible; they had access to our pictures when they pull up our cabin name on their tablets and it didn't take long for them to recognize us. Our room attendant very quickly figured out what we needed (and didn't). She was a mind reader! The food was very good but not outstanding. They identified vegan dishes on their menus, but not gluten free. House wines were drinkable and reasonable. Their biggest challenge was managing excursions, particularly when we had to use the tenders. It wasnt easy to get a huge number of people off the ship while also bringing people back on the ship. They got better but the logistics of that needed work. Some of the tours were a bit (or a lot) disappointing, but many were excellent. Geiranger Fjord would have been beautiful if you had stayed on board but it was spectacular to see it from 5,000 feet up on the excursion bus. We would definitely consider Viking Ocean again. The size of the boat was manageable, it was very comfortable, and we were well taken care of.

Cabin Review

Cabin Deluxe Veranda

Our stateroom was lovely. We liked the location, near mid ship where there is less motion. We found it to be very smooth sailing. It had plenty of storage space, a small couch, desk, mini bar, coffee table and a veranda with two chairs and a table. (All the cabins have verandas.) The bathroom was large with two sinks, good lighting, plenty of storage and a large walk in shower. The temperature control was excellent. The sliding doors were covered with black out curtains. We had a flat screen TV where we were able to watch live TV on much of the trip depending on our location as well as watch videos on the various ports and track our ship's progress. Each bed had its own reading light and the cabin was equipped with a night light. All of the public spaces on the ship were well laid out, comfortable with very clean design.
