We chose NCL because it has the reputation as one of the higher end cruise lines based on reviews and general information gathering. This vacation was for my husband and I and was our very first cruise. We had enough information on cruises from friends and family who were lifetime cruisers as well as others who were not fond of cruising. We know now that cruising is just not our thing but I feel it is important to point out that NCL misrepresented the Haven suite amenities and its value.

For starters the so called pool in the Haven area was located amidst and in an air conditioned closed section which included about 5 tables for dining, a small buffet area, and 2 hot tubs. The size of the pool was approximately 10' x 4'. When there were 2 young teens in the pool, it was crowded. The pool was situated away from the outdoor deck and seating. It was on the 16th deck; the outdoor area on the 17th deck. We found that awkward. There was no staff to be found ever. Parents used this area as a kiddie pool area/day care camp area. So there was no supervision of these children. When we finally spoke up, we were told there had been the same problem the other day as well, and security had to be called. So security was called. And after 20 minutes, the situation repeated and stayed that way for the entire cruise with the exception of docking in Bermuda. Beware, you are not getting any real added value of a separate, quiet, relaxing pool when you pay for a Haven suite.

The other amenity that was touted as a big deal which came with the Haven Spa suite was the Thermal spa. This was a beautiful area with many luxurious spa treats and we were excited to have this perk which we of course paid for as part of our haven Spa suite. The thing is and what you're not told, anyone can pay a day rate to have use of this spa. And believe me many passengers did just that. I believe it was $120 per day for the day pass. The first day, the line was almost out the door of passengers purchasing these day passes. We realized this to be the case when the following day, the spa was crowded (couldn't find an empty chair) and LOUD. Again, no staff to be found. And again, when we finally did bring it to the attention of an assistant manager, she acknowledged the problem, advised it wasn't the first complaint. We were told staff would come by to quiet things down. We never saw anyone.
