We were 1st time P & O cruiser’s although not cruise newbies on this 7 night Norwegian Fjords trip on their flagship, Britannia. We were a little worried having read many mixed reviews of the ship but having been on ten previous cruises we are also wise enough to know that people rate things in a different way and there will always be some people not happy with something (in some cases not happy with anything).

Having not got home from work until almost midnight on the 8th it proved a wise decision that we had booked the train to Southampton. We boarded a train at Wigan North Western at 6:08am and were on the tube in London two hours later changing stations for Southampton. A taxi ride and at the port well before 11am expecting a long wait to our allotted time but after a short wait they started to take luggage and allow guests upstairs to await boarding. This was quite quick and we were done in less than 20 minutes however an alarm on the air bridge meant an enforced wait in the lounge whilst it was attended to. We were still on board just after 12noon and in the Horizon buffet for what for us was brunch. We enjoyed this and were one pf perhaps the first 500 or so on board. After lunch we went to see if our cabin was ready and not only ready but our luggage was waiting so we unpacked.

As a late booking and a “bonus” holiday this year we had taken an inside guaranteed cabin and found ourselves on deck 14 cabin B245 and very clean and awaiting it was. Domnic, our cabin steward was attentive but not over fussy with us, just as we like. The cabins are a little bland but you don’t spend hours in them other than when asleep. Possibly a little smaller than other ships but adequate, the bathroom/shower etc. was excellent, plenty clothes hanging space etc. There was also plenty storage for cases under the bed.
