Norwegian Gem, 7 day NYC to Florida and Bahamas, July 9-16th. Family of 4, interior cabin.
This is our third NCL cruise out of NYC. We came away with a positive impression from our last NCL cruise. Overall, this time we were very satisfied with this cruising experience, and look forward to our next one!
Port: NYC:
The cabins are very tight for a family of four. No room to spare. Not sure why NCL only provides one pulldown bed instead of two. Our fourth bed was a pullout. Well, I am sure the reason is NCL is encouraging families to rent 2 rooms instead of 1. We will certainly be considering this in the future.
The room steward did an excellent job keeping the room clean and ready for another day/ night. We also saw some towel animals we have not seen before.
The beds and pillows were comfortable. The room was very quiet. No one had trouble taking long siestas.
Fortunately we have a relative who can drop us off at the port. Parking is now $40/day, though there might be cheaper off-port parking facilities available.
We arrived around 11:30AM. There was already a long line of folks checking in. Looks like they start check in closer to 10AM. The only good thing is we got to walk right onto the ship after checking in.
Nice day at NCL’s private island. Water is calm and clear. We brought our own snorkeling gear. We rented clam shells. Otherwise there are no umbrellas available and limited shade is found under palm trees a bit off of the beach. NCL has an extensive buffet offered in the dining area and a couple of stands providing burgers and hot dogs.
