Cabin: Mid-Ship Balcony

A travel agent selected Norwegian Sun for a northbound group Alaskan cruise and land tour due to pricing. Knowing nothing is perfect, we were satisfied overall with both the cruise and the land tour.

Ship: Although the ship is older, it looked well maintained. I didn't see anything that I thought was overly worn or looked dirty. And for the outside, it was always the prettiest ship in the ports. Previous reviews indicated a sewage odor on this ship. We did smell something, but it smelled more like some type of cabbage cooking. We could smell it outside on our balcony and in the hallways. It seemed to be mainly during meal times, so we thought maybe it had something to do with the kitchen ventilation. It wasn't sickening and didn't smell like the sewage I've smelled in RVs; but there was definitely some kind of odor.

Cabin: See cabin review below for more details. The stewards seem to work constantly and we never saw dirty dishes or anything else left out in the hallways for very long.

Mid-Ship Balcony

Cabin BA

The cabin was comfortable for the two of us and was clean. We moved the small desk chair and rolled our luggage under the desk and we had plenty of room to move about. The room was not as worn as we had expected on an older ship, so we were satisfied with the furnishings and décor. The mattress was comfortable and the room was quiet so we slept well. Although the bathroom was small, it was adequate for a seven day cruise. However, the bathroom did smell like urine. I wiped down everything with Lysol wipes several times and that seemed to help, but then the odor would come back. Since we didn't spend a lot of time in the bathroom, we just ignored it. The shower curtain tried to wrap around us when we took a shower, but we came prepared for that with a few heavy magnets which we put on the bottom of the shower curtain. Problem solved!

Port Reviews

Glacier Bay

Beautiful scenery and relaxing day. Also went to Hubbard Glacier the next day, which was really beautiful since we arrived early in the morning and it was so peaceful. There was more ice in the water at Hubbard.

Vancouver

We took a tour of the city booked separately from NCL. Very enjoyable. Interesting city.
