This was our first Celebrity cruise and only our second cruise so don’t have anything much to compare to. Embarkation took about 45 minutes and kept moving so no problem, this was at 11.30am so probably the busiest time. Our cabin was ready by 1.30pm and our baggage was waiting for us. The cabin was fine, spacious with plenty of storage and good sized shower. We had enormous balcony (slant cabin). We loved the ship it was modern and spacious with lots of comfortable seating areas.

Food and service in the main dining room was very good and we never felt the need to pay extra for speciality restaurants. We had select dining and only waited for a table on two evenings and then only for a few minutes. The buffet did get very busy on sea days but fortunately the weather was pleasant enough to sit outside on several days which made it far more relaxing. We tried cabin service for breakfast but one day it never arrived and the next juices had been forgotten so eventually gave up. The classic drinks package was included in our booking which was fine for us. We were glad it included the coffee shop where we could get a decent cup of coffee as the stuff (hesitate to call it coffee!) in the buffet was as weak as dish water. We enjoyed the guest acts particularly the Tenors of Rock but less keen on the one production show that we saw. The house band was very good and we spent many an enjoyable evening in the Sky Lounge listening to them. We didn’t experience any hard sell to upgrade our drinks package, book speciality restaurant’s etc. and even the photographers didn’t bother us (obviously not very photogenic!)

We did our own thing in all the ports apart from ST Petersburg where we had booked a two day tour with SPB. Unfortunately adverse weather meant we couldn’t dock on the first day which was disappointing but no one’s fault; however SPB were brilliant and extended our second day tour to ensure we could see as much as possible. They also refunded the cost of day one.

Port Reviews

Amsterdam

Stayed in Amsterdam for 3 nights pre-cruise at Hotel Fita. Lovely city walked everywhere. Watch out for bikes!

Rostock (Warnemunde)

Didn't take trip to Berlin instead spent day in the pretty little seaside resort of Warnemunde. Easy walk from the ship. Lovely beach and promenade for a long walk. Also did boat trip around the harbour.

Tallinn

Beautiful old town but very busy. Glad we didn't do an organised walking tour as we were able to avoid the crowds. In all the ports we took Rick Steves' cruise guide to Baltic ports and did our own tour at our own pace. Easy walk to old town from ship didn't need to use ship's shuttle.

Helsinki

Took the ship's shuttle ($12 pp) which you definitely needed in this port. Again did our own walking tour and then took a lovely boat trip which was well worth doing. Lovely water front where we had a delicious freshly cooked salmon baguette.

Stockholm

The ship didn't provide a shuttle here and said it was 20 minute walk to centre but it took us at least a 35 minute brisk walk to reach the old town. On reflection we would probably use the HOHO bus or boat if we returned. These are available at the dock.

Copenhagen

Again used the ship's shuttle ($12 pp) here to get into the town where we did our own walking tour and a canal boat trip which was lovely (sunny day). We then walked back to the ship so we could look at the royal palace and little mermaid which was only 10 minutes away from the dock.
